MArching Season lasts from early fall into the beginning of winter. From football games to Christmas Parades the Pride of the Tribe works hard to perform the best that they can. This year's theme was "things that go bump in the night." The band chose the quote: "F.E.a.r has two meanings: Forget everything and run or face everything and rise." Every single time the marching band Rose to the challenge. marching season is drawing to a close with two more christmas parades this saturday it's a time to reflect on band and what it means to these students.

Run The Country
11/10/17
As the fall sports have come to the end of another season, let’s look back at one sport that fills that days of several students. Cross country is a sport that not many people find bearable, let alone enjoyable. To run miles and miles on end is something that takes a certain character and set of mind. Determination, endurance, talent, and hard work are just a few of the incredible qualities that the Strafford cross country team possess. From the perspective of these incredible runners this is cross country:
“I love cross country because of the people and the long distances. The coaches and teammates create a really fun and positive atmosphere. When you’re running a race, you get this rush of exhilaration, and you think, ‘I’m doing something that a lot of other people can’t.’ Cross country makes you feel like you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to.” - Madylynn Ward (10)
Running is not for everyone. The distances and places that these individuals run is one thing that sets them apart. They are disciplined and dedicated; focused on nothing but the race at hand. These students are just one part of the diverse student body at Strafford, but no matter how diverse we are, we are all Strafford Strong. This is the perspective of the cross country team.

It’s a big weekend for Strafford. Among those competing this weekend is the competitive cheer squad. For the past several months a group of talented ladies have been working hard for a two and a half minute routine. For the first time in five years Strafford is competing in cheer. They took first at regionals and are heading to state this weekend. For them this has been a compilation if months of hard work, weeks of early morning, and practices full of sweat and determination. This is their take on the upcoming competition:
“When we’re performing I think about all of the time we’ve spent working on this routine and how badly we all want to do the best we can. Everything comes down to two and a half minutes on a mat with the team we’ve grown closest to!” - Victoria Haynes (11)
“What I like about competing is the team bonding and how we’re one family that has each other’s back no matter what and we just have fun all the time.” - Sierra Stewart (9)
“My thoughts are all over the place when competing. I think about everything I need to be doing. I love to just perform with all my heart and not worry about what could go wrong. I like how close my team has gotten. We’ve each larned how to push each other and we’ve grown a bond like no other.” - Kelsee Reeves (11)
“My thoughts when performing are how hard we have worked in this routine and how much we have put into it, just to perform for two and a half minutes and give it everything we have.” - Alexa Stalker (11)
“My thoughts when we’re competing is how bad we’ve worked for it and how many practices we’ve put in and just to hit it and leave it all on the floor and just I love that we all just come together as sisters and push each other to fight for the stunts and hit the timing.” - Kallynn Smith (9)
“To me, to compete is taking what we’ve worked on for months and hours on end throwing into a two minute routine and performing to the best of our ability, we have one shot and that’s a major adrenaline rush.” - Claire Berghager (11)
Two and a half minutes is all the team has to prove that they have what it takes, the pressure is on. These girls are talented, motivated, and ready to accept the challenge. Without a doubt, the team has formed a strong bond over the past few months. The team has a saying that has been with them since the summer: Triple P. Triple P stands for pride, passion, and perfection. This team has it all. They are ready to fight and execute everything for the chance to win it all. With their final performance less than twenty-four hours away, they are ready to leave it all on the floor. That’s the perspective of the competitive squad.

Along with football, another sport fills the calendar for Strafford students. Volleyball is a major highlight in the fall. With a team who is not only competitive, but dedicated as well it’s no wonder why fans love them so much. Many individuals know what it is like to be yelling from the stands, but what is it like on the court?
“Playing in a big game like the district championship is one of the most exhilarating experience I’ve ever had. Your adrenaline is so high the whole time, so you kind of tune out everything outside of the court because you’re so focused in the moment. The main thing that really focuses me and calms me down is just “Have faith is God.” That’s what I was just repeating in my head and I know He’s got my back and as long as I give it my all He’s gonna help me out and give it his all.” - Chloe Rear (12)
“I love playing for Strafford volleyball because it’s like my second family. I get to play with all of my best friends and make lots of unforgettable memories. I also get to play for two amazing coaches who push us to be the best we can.” - Karly Soden (12)
“Playing Strafford volleyball is amazing. Every girl on the Strafford team supports her teammates, and the older players are so helpful in teaching and guiding the younger players to be better teammates, players, and people. The coaches are always helping to make the team better. And to get to build a bond with the girls on the team is something I’ll forever be thankful for. BEing a player on the Strafford volleyball team is an incredible experience.” - Mackenzie Broemmer (9)
“I like that we are competitive and love to win. I also like how we are all family and get along with one another.” -Kaitlyn Vote (10)
Strafford is known for having pride in everything our student body participated in and volleyball is no exception. The volleyball girls at Strafford put everything they have in to every single game all the time. These students walk the halls and have the support of everyone around them. That’s volleyball from the player’s perspective.

Strafford PErspective
10/12/17
What is the Strafford perspective? In a single high school there are hundreds of different perspectives. When these perspectives are compared we all have a few things in common. We all live in a small town. We all are high schoolers. We are all Strafford strong. Being Strafford strong means that we are one town, one community, one school, one student body. As a school we stand by one another, we encourage one another, we push each other to be better individuals. As we become who our childhood has shaped us to be, we learn how to stand strong for what we believe. We learn to face the future with a positive outlook. We learn how to never give up.
We shouldn’t forget where we started and the people who helped us become who we are today. Our teachers have taught us that this world doesn’t have to divide us, you don’t have to be a writer to write your own story, your history doesn’t determine your future, and our anatomy isn’t the only thing we have in common. Our friends are the ones who we’ve learned from what it means to rely on one another, what it means to be there for each other, what it means encourage each other to become the best you you can be. Our family, whether blood related or you school family, has taught us what it means to always stand up and stand by each other. These lessons have shaped our lives and have helped us become who we are. This is the Strafford perspective.

The girls on the the Strafford golf team are a few of the several hardworking and dedicated individuals that walk the halls of Strafford High School. To play a sport like golf it takes patience and concentration on every single stroke. These ladies are talented, not just in the sport but in academics as well. Playing golf means that you spend a lot of days at the start of the school year going to day long tournaments around the area. Not only are these ladies spending hours on the courses but also putting in time to keep up with their school work. The Strafford girls golf team works hard in every aspect. AS Kayla Foht (11) said, "I think what I like about golf is the amount of thinking that goes that goes along with the game itself." This team is not only talented, but humble as well. GOLF CAN GET FRUSTRATING QUICKLY AND A SINGLE WRONG MOVE CAN CHANGE YOUR ENTIRE GAME. HOWEVER, THE GIRLS ON STRAFFORD’S GOLF TEAM KEEP A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON THE GAME. WITH SUPPORT FROM THEIR FELLOW CLASSMATES, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND THE COMMUNITY THESE LADIES HAVE STRAFFORD BEHIND THEM WHEREVER THEY GO. THIS TEAM IS JUST A ONE PART OF THE STUDENT BODY AT STAFFORD THAT MAKES THE SCHOOL INCREDIBLE. THIS group of talented students have their own perspective.

FRIday Night Lights
9/29/2017
Friday nights are too big to cover in just one week, especially when fall and football go so well together in a town like ours. With so many different perspectives on the game, this week is all about the fans and the cheerleaders. The students who support the Strafford football team are full of energy and school spirit. If you look over during a game you are likely to see a section of the student body proving that win or lose they are there for their team. These are some of their thoughts about friday night lights at STRAFFORD:
“Cheering on Friday’s gives me a great sense of Indian pride. Being with a group of my peers cheering on our own varsity football team is amazing! You can feel the excitement course through you throughout the game.” - Maria Comstock, superfan (11)
“There is no better feeling than cheering your bros on and watching them get that dub.” - Jordan Choate, superfan (12)
“I superfan because it’s such a great feeling to be there cheering on the classmates I’ve known since kindergarten. Whether they win or lose, they make me proud to be an Indian.” - Jessica Robertson, superfan (12)
“I love to cheer on fridays because I like to support my school and town.” - Carly Brock, cheerleader (11)
“I love getting excited and pumping other people up. Cheering on my friends and classmates makes the experience even more fun. I love telling them good job after and whether they win or lose, I’m proud!” - Katie Waitman, superfan (11)
“I love to cheer on fridays because I love to support the boys and cheer them on with my favorite girls.” - Callynn Smith, cheerleader (9)
“Wonderful! I love seeing the community come together to support us and the boys. I love my cheer girls, my football boys, and all of the super amazing super fans. Strafford is like a big family, and that shows during games” - Shaylynn Burrell, cheerleader (12)
Again and again these individuals, along with many others, come together and form what is known as the tribe. The tribe shows up everywhere. You see them at home and away games, no matter the sport. These students are also the ones who are involved in what’s going on in the school. They are one of the things that stands out about Strafford High School. SHS is a school that has students that are not only involved in multiple extracurricular activities, but students who support their fellow classmates in whatever they are doing.
Friday nights are a notable part of student life at Strafford. Seeing the game from the off the field gives you a different look at every second, every play, and every moment. There is just something about coming together as a student body to support our team that fills the atmosphere with an air of positivity. From the cheerleaders, energy, to the super fans’ excited screaming, to the communities support; the Strafford football team is never, and will never, alone when they face an opponent. This is the perspective of the tribe.

WHEN YOU THINK OF FRIDAY NIGHTS AT STRAFFORD YOU THINK OF FOOTBALL GAMES. THESE GAMES ARE A STAPLE FOR A TOWN LIKE OURS. THE STUDENTS WHO PLAY INDIAN FOOTBALL HAVE UNIQUE EXPERIENCES ONLY THEY WILL TRULY UNDERSTAND. MANY KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE IN THE STANDS, BUT HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ON THE FIELD? THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE THEIR OWN PERSPECTIVE ON THE GAME, THESE ARE JUST A FEW:
"WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE GAME IS THE ATMOSPHERE IS JUST AWESOME! THE FANS CHEERING, THE BOYS GETTING PUMPED UP... IT'S JUST A GREAT FEELING." - CALEB SEMPLE, 11
"I PLAY FOOTBALL FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME." - MASON FOLEY, 10
"THERE IS NOTHING LIKE [PLAYING ON THE FIELD DURING A GAME]. ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF YOUR LIFE FADE AWAY." - TRAYSON LAWLER, 11
"IT IS FUN TO PLAY INDIAN FOOTBALL." - CLAY LAWSON, 10
"TO ME, FNL MEANS HEART. GIVING MY ALL EVERY SNAP OF THE BALL AND NOT STOPPING UNTIL THE CLOCK SAYS ZERO." - ANDREW WOODRING, 12
FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT MEANS THAT IT'S BEEN A WEEK OF HARD WORK AND DEDICATION, IT MEANS THAT THEY HAVE TO PROVE THEMSELVES ONE MORE TIME, IT MEANS THEY HAVE TO GIVE IT EVERYTHING THEY HAVE FOR THE TEAM. THESE STUDENTS ARE JUST A FEW OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT WALK THE HALLS OF STRAFFORD HIGH SCHOOL. THEY'RE PERSPECTIVE IS UNIQUE, UNLIKE ANYONE ELSE'S.
