STRAFFORD BOYS BASKETBALL
This week Strafford boys basketball kicked off the season with a win against Berryville with a score of 75-65. IN CASE you didn’t know Berryville is in Arkansas. Both teams had a FG percentage of 50 percent. Riley Oberbeck had an outstanding game with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Strafford is coming off a 14-10 season, which ended in a district semifinal loss to Fair Grove.
After losing a few key starters, Indians fans are looking forward to seeing how they perform this season. We asked Senior Bryce Boswell what his expectations are for this season. “I expect us to be pretty solid this season and make a run for districts.” As a Strafford Indian fan I am very excited to see how we do. GO INDIANS!!!

This week I will be straying from the normal sports topics. Today is Veterans Day. Veterans day means a lot to me because I have many family members who have and are currently serving. From the Revolutionary war to today our family has always had a relative serving in the armed forces.Veterans have sacrificed so much for us and our country, but many times they don't receive the recognition they deserve.
Veterans have always put the American people first, which allows us to pursue the American dream. Veterans sacrifice their time, money and sometimes they make the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Why do they do this? Not for fame, not for money. They protect the very freedoms that this country was founded on. They protect our freedom of speech, religion, and the pursuit of happiness. Winston Churchill once said “never was so much owed by so many to so few.” Never has a statement been so true for Veterans.

This saturday cross country will be running at Clever. This race will decide if we go to state. Cross country state is held in Jefferson city. If a runner places in the top fifteen they qualify for state. Also if our team receives first or second are entire varsity team will go to Jefferson city.
All of are hard work leads up to this race. This is where the rubber meets the road. (no pun intended.) I am very excited to run for Strafford. I am looking forward to competing at Clever.

MLC meet
Last week cross country ran at the mid-lake conference meet. It was held at the Fair Grove district park. This was the first time a cross country meet was held there. Throughout the race there was a variety of grass, sidewalk, and road. The majority of the course was flat except a large hill right after the two mile mark.
As a team Strafford placed second with 65 points. Also we had four Strafford runners place in the top ten. Next week we will run at Clever for districts. If Strafford receives first or second are entire varsity team will go to state. I am very excited to see how we match up.

Didi for the win
didi gregorius played a big role in the 5-2 victory over the Indians. in the first inning he hit a solo shot to right field. his next time up to bat he would hit a two run blast to give the yankees an early lead. cc sabathia pitched an outstanding 4 1/3 INNINGS. he tied his carer record for strike outs with nine.
there was also a TREMENDOUS AMOUNT of pressure ON JOE Girardi to win the series. IN game two many people BELIEVE that joe blew an OPPORTUNITY to win the game. the yankees had a 8-3 LEaD over the indians when a CONVERSATIONAL hit by pitch call loaded the bases. then lindor hit a grand slam and would go on to win the game. many fans were mad because if he would have challenged it, he would have won the challenge, and the the game may have had a DIFFERENT outcome. many players supported joe through the CRITICISM.

Bronx bomber beat the twins
the YANKEES move on to the alds in their 8-4 victory over the twins. This win didn't come easily for the yankees. The fifth pitch of the game was Brian dozier HOME RUN off of yankees ace luis severino. Later in the first inning eddie rosario would hit a two run blast. At this point things were looking bad for severino and the yankees. prior to this outing 23 year old severino had no post season experience. After the two HOMers, and the yankees being down 3-0 they decide to take him out in put in chad green in, who has BEEN a star in middle RELIEF. In the bottom of the first didi gregorius with runners on first and third hit a three run blast to tie up the game. later in the bottom of the second brett gardner hit an upper deck bomb to put THE yankees up 4-3.in the bottom of the third score tied 4-4 greg bird would hit a double to score gary SANCHEZ. also in the fourth judge got in on the action with a two run HOMER TO put the bronx bombers up 4-7. Aroldis chapman in the bottom would strike out the final batter with an 103 mph fastball to end the game. next up for the yankees is the indians in the Alds. go yankees!!!

THIS WEEK AARON JUDGE HIT HIS 50TH HOMER OF THE SEASON IN THE 11-3 VICTORY OVER THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS. WITH THIS HISTORIC HOME RUN HE PASSED MARK MCGWIRE, WHO PREVIOUSLY HELD THE ROOKIE HOME RUN RECORD WITH 49 HOME RUNS. MARK MCGWIRE IN 1998 WOULD GO ON TO SET THE SINGLE SEASON HOME RUN RECORD WITH 70. ALTHOUGH HIS RECORD WOULD ONLY LAST 3 YEARS.
MANY SPORTS ANALYSTS PREDICTED THAT HE WOULDN'T REACH 50. JUDGE FACED MANY ADVERSITIES ON HIS WAY TO THE TOP. WHEN HE WAS FIRST CALLED UP TO THE MAJORS, IN 2016, HE STRUGGLED WITH A BATTING AVERAGE OF .179. HE ALSO HOLDS A RECORD OF 37 CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH A STRIKEOUT.
THE PACE HE HAD GOING DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON WAS UNHEARD OF FROM A ROOKIE. HIS 50th HOME RUN IS NOT THE FIRST time HE DEIFIED THE ODDS. DURING THE HOME RUN DERBY (WHICH HE WOULD GO ON TO WIN) HE DEFIED THE LAWS OF PHYSICS AND HITS THE ROOF OF MARLINS PARK. WITH THIS FEAT HE GOES AGAINST NASA ENGINEERS WHO SAID IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HIT THE ROOF AT MARLINS PARK. I AM VERY EXCITED TO SEE WHAT JUDGE HAS IN STORE FOR THE POST SEASON. GO YANKEES!!!

THIS WEEK IN CROSS COUNTRY, STRAFFORD RAN AT THE STOCKTON MEET. THE TEMPERATURE WAS 90 DEGREES. THE COURSE CONTAINS MANY HILLS AND VERY LITTLE SHADE. MANY RUNNERS SAY THAT IT IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT COURSES. ALTHOUGH WE HAD ALL OF THESE ADVERSITIES, WE PERSEVERED THROUGH THE HEAT AND HILLS AND RECEIVED SECOND PLACE AS A TEAM. ALSO FIVE STRAFFORD RUNNERS PLACED INDIVIDUALLY. NEXT WEEK IN CROSS COUNTRY MANY OF US ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CHILE PEPPER FESTIVAL. THIS RACE WILL HOST NEARLY 6,500 RUNNERS AND OVER 6,000 SPECTATORS. IT IS ONE OF THE FASTER COURSES AND IS FAIRLY FLAT. MANY RUNNERS ENJOY THIS RACE BECAUSE IT IS SO LARGE, AND THERE IS COMPETITION FROM ALL AROUND.
