WELCOME BACK STRAFFORD. THIS WEEK I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT HOW TO HANG IN THERE. THIS WEEK WE ARE BACK FROM THANKSGIVING BREAK, WHICH WE ALL THOROUGHLY ENJOYED. HOWEVER, THESE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS BACK ARE NEVER EASY. BELIEVE ME I GET IT. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE CAN SLACK OFF. THIS IS WHERE STRAFFORD'S "STRONG" MOTTO ROLLS IN. WE ARE ALL TIRED, AND EXHAUSTED; BUT WE NEED TO PUSH THROUGH UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF THE SEMESTER. A GOOD WAY TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THIS IS TO MAKE A GOAL. FOR INSTANCE, MY GOAL IS TO END FIRST SEMESTER WITH STRAIGHT A'S. I WILL ACHIEVE THIS BY WORKING DILIGENTLY IN CLASS, BEING RESILIENT TO WHATEVER IS THROWN AT ME, AND COMPLETING MY WORK TO MY BEST ABILITY. IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO SLACK OFF BECAUSE SEMESTER GRADES MATTER. THE HARDER YOU WORK, THE FASTER YOU GET DONE, AND THE FASTER CHRISTMAS BREAK COMES.
TO CONTINUE, ANOTHER WAY FOR YOU TO MEET YOUR GOAL IS TO ATTEND STUDY SESSIONS. STRAFFORD HOSTS A FEW COOKIES AND CRAMMING SESSIONS. ALONG WITH THOSE, MANY TEACHERS OFFER EXTRA CREDIT FOR STAYING AFTER SCHOOL FOR TUTORING. ANY POINTS YOU CAN GET IN THE GRADE BOOK SIGNIFICANTLY HELP. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR LUMEN ACCOUNT TO OBSERVE YOUR GRADES AND ASSIGNMENTS. BE SURE TO ASK FOR HELP WHENEVER YOU NEED IT OF COURSE. AND BE SURE TO RETAKE ANY BAD TEST GRADES IF POSSIBLE.COLLEGES ALWAYS LOOK FOR SEMESTER GRADES, ALONG WITH ABSENCES. ATTEMPT TO MISS THE LEAST AMOUNT OF SCHOOL YOU CAN, BUT IF YOU DO MISS, BRING IN A DOCTOR'S NOTE. GPA ISN'T THE ONLY FACTOR THAT PLAYS INTO YOUR COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE LETTER. I'VE ALWAYS LOOKED AT SCHOOL DAYS LIKE THIS. WOULD I RATHER BE THERE AND BE CAUGHT UP, OR MISS 3 DAYS AND MAKE UP MY WORK AT HOME? I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I LOVE MY FREE TIME.
THAT'S ALL FOR THIS WEEK STRAFFORD. BE ORGANIZED, BE PRESENT, AND BE PROACTIVE.

Welcome back strafford. This week I will be talking a bit about Veterans Day, and school involvement. To start off, Veterans Day is a day to recognize the countless men and women who have fought for our country. These individuals put in tireless hours and work to serve our country. They were awake throughout the night providing protection while we slept. These people were on the field with other soldiers on Christmas and Thanksgiving while we were visiting with our family that they long to see. It is important to recognize these individuals as they have sacrificed so much for us. So please, thank a veteran whenever you can. They greatly appreciate it.
Moving on to a school related matter: involvement. There are a vast majority of clubs that our school has available for students to choose from. A few include: FBLA, FCCLA, FTA, Math Team, Scholar Bowl, Art Club, Robotics, and a few more. These clubs offer lots of fun activities, and introduce you to new skills to use later in life. Not only do they teach you new things, it offers you opportunities to make friends. Clubs are a great way to get involved in your school. They also look pretty nice on a college application. There are opportunities for advancement within many clubs; including officer, president, and management positions. I encourage you all to be involved and make tons of memories you’ll never forget.
That’s all for this week Strafford. Don’t forget to tune into the Tribe Cast every monday morning!

Welcome back Strafford. This week I will be sharing tips on how to make a solid college foundation, inside and outside of school. If you plan on going to college, high school is a very important step in that process. Although straight A’s are great, colleges receive thousands of applications. Therefore, your 4.0 is just a norm that is comparable to everyone else’s. Colleges want to see involvement. They strive to see involvement in your community, school, and other activities. Today I will tell you significant factors that determine your acceptance letter.
To begin, if you are athletic, choose a sport that best suites you and stick with it. This portrays respect, commitment, responsibility, and team player characteristics. Next, choose clubs available at your school. Colleges love to see these because they not only prove involvement, but they prove knowledge of other skills. Like I have mentioned in other blogs, being studious is the number one thing to be in high school. Besides all of the above, you should also do things outside of school. Doing simple things like volunteering around your community, or helping out with community events looks great on that application.
To end, I will discuss a great way to keep your statistics organized throughout your 4 long years of high school. A site called Missouri Connections is a great way to enter all of your information and track it. Not only does this site do that, it has plentiful activities to help you choose a career that’s right for you if you’re not sure yet.

Welcome back strafford. this week my topic is being proactive in school. To be proactive is to take charge and initiative in all you do. Being proactive benefits you in so many ways. for example, would you rather spend 8 hours of your day at school playing around and have to work all night at home; or would you rather be productive for 8 hours and relax at home with some snacks and a movie? Its all up to you. but to me, the second option sounds far more appealing. being proactive not only helps with organizing your day, but it prioritizes your activities.
Another reason being proactive is beneficial, is getting the grade you want. When you are proactive, you are determined. Have the mindset of completion and accuracy. continue to ask questions, while working diligently. you will realize that school is a lot smoother and enjoyable if you have everything turned in on time. it boosts your confidence and your grade. Not only does this satisfy your college application, but your reputation in school. your teachers notice hard work and effort, and respect you for it too. so the next time your friend begins to distract you in class, stop and be proactive. There is always time to goof off at home.
Well that's all for this week. Be proactive strafford. Have a great week. a friendly reminder to check out the shs journalism instagram. post your favorite pictures with the hashtag #shstribecast to have your photo featured as photo of the week!!!

Welcome back strafford. This week i'd love to talk to you all about a simple topic: being kind. to start off, there are some things we all need to realize. First, you never know someone's true story. The girl that has a bright red rash all over her skin, may have an irreversible skin condition. The boy that is failing all of his courses and is always sleeping in class, may have to work timeless hours to provide for his family. The girl that can't even brush her hair before school anymore, her mother may have cancer. someone could live the worst life possible, and you may not even know. However telling someone that they're dumb, or making fun of their clothes.. could send them over the edge. THEREFORE, BE KIND. TELL SOMEONE YOU LIKE THEIR SHIRT, OR THAT THEIR HAIR LOOKS NICE. IT COULD REALLY MAKE THEIR DAY.
Another reason to spread kindness is for the simple reason that things are uncontrollable. There are many things such as acne, hair, or even income status that people can't control. if you see someone that can't afford the newest kicks or jeans, treat them the same as you would anyone else. If you see a girl that has out of hand acne, take a minute to ask yourself "Does that girl want acne all over her face?" after that you'll probably realize that its not her fault. She didn't choose that. People are born with flaws. those flaws make us who we are, in a good way. they make us unique. In the end we all bleed red. do those acne scars, and fancy clothes really matter? No. we are all people. struggling to succeed, be liked, have friends, have a specific appearance. I believe in the midst of that struggle, we forget the true meaning of living. that is to be kind, and positive, and to love unconditionally. That's all for this week. Be kind strafford. :)

Welcome back strafford, this week for the E.h. scoop i will be giving you some tips to study. To begin, the easiest trick in the book is, you guessed it, flashcards. if you are struggling with vocab, a helpful trick is to create a set of organized flashcards to study often. Something that makes it fun, is to use color coded cards. Studys actually show that colored content helps you learn. Another secret trick that has a proven study is to chew gum. not just any gum, you should chew the same flavored gum when you test as when you study.
Another tip is to space out your study sessions throughout days. for example, make a goal to study at least 30 minutes per day for a week or until your test. or 30 minutes twice a day. you should adjust the learning and time levels according to you. studying with a partner often makes the time fly and the content stick better. ask a parent or friend to help you out.
Lastly, you should ask your teachers about tutoring. go as often as you can because you not only get a quiet place to study with help to answer your questions, but most teachers offer extra credit for coming in. its the best of both worlds. i hope this information was helpful for anyone struggling out there! that's all for this week strafford! don't forget to tune into the weekly tribe cast every monday morning. This week, there are a few things that i can't stress enough: study, study, study! This week i had a few tests coming up. i also had a few personal things to deal with. My mistake was that i didn't prioritize my goals very well. i went home and made the choice to deal with personal matters rather than school. when the day of the test came, i began frantically trying to memorize a vast amount of theorems, postulates, etc. now for the most part i did pretty well. however, the things that i didn't study were the areas i needed help on while taking the test. this week i learned a very important lesson: be studious, be responsible. I fixed this problem by beginning to study for more upcoming tests. I also did some extra credit work.
I do have some ways for you to prevent the mistake i committed. the first one is to keep a planner. A planner is an easy way, and personally my favorite, to visualize your schedule and activities. Another way is to create a simple list of tasks to achieve. The best feeling is crossing a task off your list. Lastly, set reminders on your phone. this is basically the most accurate way to organize your events in a timely manner. So in conclusion: be a good student. I know you're tired after school. i know the homework absolutely stinks, but what is important is your grade. so whenever you feel lazy, remind yourself to take it for the grade.
well strafford, that's all for this week. Don't forget to tune into the tribe cast every monday morning!

YOU MIGHT ASK, “WHAT IS A DAY AT STRAFFORD SCHOOLS LIKE?”. WELL I’M HERE TO TELL YOU. THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF SCHOOL ARE ALWAYS CHAOTIC. ALTHOUGH FROM THE BEGINNING THERE IS AN UPBEAT VIBE IN THE AIR. AT STRAFFORD, WE HAVE AN AMAZING GROUP OF STUDENT COUNCIL KIDS THAT CREATE FUN EVENTS, AND DECORATE OUR SCHOOL WITH COLORFUL POSTERS. WE ARE A TIGHT KNIT COMMUNITY.
MY FIRST FEW WEEKS OF SCHOOL HAVE BEEN STRESSFUL BECAUSE I’M TAKING A FEW COLLEGE COURSES. AT FIRST I WAS LOST, THEN I REALIZED THAT THE SELF PACE STRUCTURE WASN’T REALLY THAT BAD. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE BEST WAY TO GET A GOOD GRADE IN THOSE CLASSES IS TO STAY AHEAD AND BE PREPARED.
MY ADVICE FOR STRUGGLING STUDENTS IS TO ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS. YOU SHOULD GO TO TUTORING IF YOU NEED EXTRA HELP ANYTIME. ALSO, KEEP TRACK OF YOUR ASSIGNMENTS IN AN ORDERLY FASHION. NOTHING IS WORSE THAN NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING. NOW MY BEST ADVICE TO YOU IS TO ALWAYS DO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS. IT MIGHT SEEM LIKE YOU WON’T NEED THIS EVER IN YOUR LIFE, BUT TRUST ME YOU NEED THE GRADE. SO SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND BE RESPONSIBLE. JUST ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST AND TRY NOT TO STRESS TOO MUCH. HANG IN THERE GUYS!
ALSO, DON'T FORGET TO TUNE INTO THE SHS TRIBE CAST EVERY MONDAY IN FIRST HOUR! USE THE INSTAGRAM HASHTAG #SHSTRIBECAST FOR A CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR POST FEATURED ON THE SHOW!
