LOOKING UP
WITH LOGAN E.
This School 12/1/17
Strafford is a very close community. Most of our community is at every School event. With basketball starting recently, and our girls on their way to another state title, the atmosphere is a little different than usual. The expectations are higher than ever as our girls have won two championships in a row. The team is showing early success even with the loss of Abby Oliver. They basically annihilate every team they step on the court with. We hope our girls can continue their streak and dominance of Missouri basketball.
Our boys basketball team has had success in the past but as of recent have hit a bit of a slouch. The team has shown success defensively as well as offensively. Riley Oberbeck almost reached a triple-double in their first game against Berryville. We are all very optimistic about how the team will perform this season. The team has great leadership as there are five seniors on the team.
Sacrifice 11/9/17
“There was a story of a little girl named Liza who was suffering from a disease and needed blood from her five-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying,
“Yes, I’ll do it if it will save Liza.”
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?” Being young, the boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give her all his blood.”(http://www.motivationalwellbeing.com/motivational-stories.html)
This story is very very touching. The fact that a little boy was willing to give away all of his blood is amazing. Sacrifice is something that we all come across. Some sacrifice a lot, and only some a little. Giving is a very hard thing, most of the time. When we see somebody in need, we should want to help them. We need to be able to humble ourselves and help others; and not be hesitant to ask for help if we need. Sacrifice isn’t always easy, but it’s something that comes up all the time in real life. Even tho we have to sacrifice sometimes, there is always a reason to be looking up.

Rise Up 10/27/17
“A man’s favorite donkey falls into a deep hole. He can’t pull it out no matter how hard he tries. He therefore decides to bury it alive.
Soil is poured onto the donkey from above. The donkey feels the load, shakes it off, and steps on it. More soil is poured.
It shakes it off and steps up. The more the load was poured, the higher it rose. By noon, the donkey was grazing in green pastures.”
As high schoolers, we face things. Lots of things; however, sometimes we let the things we face get the best of us and we get stuck in a hole. I have faced lots of things that I’m not comfortable sharing on this blog, but the point is, I’m stronger because of what I faced and all those struggles made me who I am today. Just like the donkey, I had to shake off the dirt and rise up. It doesn’t matter how often you fall; what matters is how willing you are to get back up and try again. This story reminds me of something Will Smith said. Will Smith once said, “If you don’t fight for what you want, don’t cry for what you lost.” Though some of us might not want to hear that, it’s the truth. We have to shake off our problems, rise up and learn from them, and then you will see the brighter side.
Life is not easy and I think we all know it. We deal with things and that’s just part of life. We have to be strong enough to rise up from our problems and continue on this journey called life. As long as we continue to rise, we will have another reason to be looking up.

Struggle = potential for improvement 10/19/2017
“ A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Until it suddenly stopped making any progress, and looked like it was stuck.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man didn’t think anything of it, and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.
Despite the kind heart of the man, he didn’t understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings to prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon.”(https://wealthygorilla.com/10-most-inspirational-short-stories/6/)
This story shows us that the struggles we face make us who we are today. There are a lot of things I had to go through to make me who i am today... i faced a lot of struggles growing up and am just getting to the point where i don't have to go through it anymore. for a long time i faced the same struggle and i thought it was enough to break me. i started to think i wasn't loved by the people who should love me. but the thing is, all of that made me who i am right now and i'm mentally stronger because of all of it. I'm reminded of a quote that reads, "My love for you is like a tree. Even if it is cut down, there are roots 100 feet in the Ground" - Sum. I love this because i'm reminded of how some people hide their emotion and some people just need a little help nurturing their tree. SOme situations may seem to tough to get through; however, it will make you stronger and give you another reason to be looking up.

Nothing is impossible 10/11/17
I hate the words "I can't". We should never look at a situation and say something is impossible or we aren't good enough. we shouldn't allow ourselves to be tied back by anything. i read a story about a man walking through an elephant camp. he saw all the elephants tied up to a little post. but the massive creatures were tied up with a small piece of rope. This confused the man and he asked the trainer why the elephants never tried to escape. The trainer replied that they don't try to escape because when they are very young, we use the same rope to tie them up, and at that age it's enough to hold them. and as they get older they are conditioned to believe they cannot get away. they believe it can still hold them.
we think this sounds silly, but we are sometimes like the elephant and we believe that we cannot get away from certain situations. you may read that and think that there is no way you could be symbolic in that situation, but how many times do we hear someone say something negative to us and we let something small, like a couple words, ruin our whole day. we hang our heads and tell ourselves it's the end of the world because someone doesn't like what we are wearing. You can't Let society tie you down into believing you are worthless and that you have to be like everyone else. let's face it... you aren't like anyone else. we are each our own special person and life may get tough, but we have to continue looking up.

your value will never decrease 10/5/17
i once read a story that goes like this:"A speaker started off a seminar by holding up a twenty dollar bill and asking the crowd 'WHo wants this twenty?' All 200 hands went up. he then crumpled it up and asked again, 'WHo wants this twenty?' all 200 hands were still in the air. he then threw it on the ground and stomped on it and asked again, 'who wants it now?' all the hands in the room were still up."
This story shows up a very valuable lesson and is very symbolic to us in everyday life. we(the twenty dollar bill) go through things every day. we get crumpled up, thrown down, and sometimes stomped on by others. But something that we fail to remember is that even through all the trials in life we face, we never lose our value. we may look at the obstacle in front of us and think the world is over; however, in reality, those trials turn us into who we are today.
don't let anyone tell you that you aren't good enough or worth it. because just like the $20 we all get stomped on and fall down. but it isn't about how hard the fall is... it's about how willing you are to get back up and continue to be looking up.

being positive is more beautiful than being negative 9/29/17
IN the world we live in today, it seems that negativity is everywhere. almost anywhere you go there will be people that will try to bring you down. I always try to be positive and have a good outlook on the day. in the 90's a scientist named dr. masaru emoto conducted a series of experiments(http://www.masaru-emoto.net/english/water-crystal.html). in these experiments he spoke to vials of water. with half of the vials he spoke positive things to the water like "thank you", "god bless you", and "i love you/love and appreciation". with the other half, he spoke negative things like "you make me sick, i will kill you" and "adolf hitler". the next thing emoto did was freeze the vials. once the vials were frozen, he hired photographers to take pictures of the crystals of the frozen water. their findings were pretty amazing...
the crystals from the vials that were spoken to positively were beautiful and very dynamic; on the other hand, the crystals from the vials that were spoken negatively to were all SLOSHED and nasty looking. did you know that an adult human body is made up of 60 percent water? i'm not a big believer in coincidence, but what i think this experiment shows us is that we do have the power of life and death in our tonguE. we need to be lifting each other up with our actions and our words because what you say today could kill or save someones life.

LIving the strafford high life 9/25/17
I HAVE ATTENDED STRAFFORD SCHOOLS MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND I HAVE LOVED BEING A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY. I'M A SENIOR AND MOST OF THE STUDENTS THAT I STARTED WITH ARE STILL HERE. THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL FRIENDS THAT HAVE LEFT, THERE HAVE BEEN EVEN MORE THAT COME AND TAKE THEIR PLACE. STRAFFORD IS ONE OF THOSE SMALL TOWNS WHERE EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE. I REMEMBER BEING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THINKING TO MYSELF," IT'S GONNA BE FOREVER TILL I'M A SENIOR OR EVEN IN HIGH SCHOOL!" AND NOW IT'S JUST AS MIND BOGGLING THAT I'M ACTUALLY HERE! I HAVE FACED MANY THINGS IN MY LIFE AS I'VE GROWN UP FROM DIVORCED PARENTS AT A YOUNG AGE AND REMARRYING TO WONDERING WHAT I WAS PUT HERE TO DO. BUT THROUGH EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WENT THROUGH, THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A REASON TO BE LOOKING UP.
